Client: Academic Institute of Excellence
Location: Greenside, Johannesburg
Project type: Ceiling acoustic panel installation
Application: Educational facility acoustic treatment
The Challenge
The Academic Institute of Excellence in Greenside was dealing with large, acoustically lively rooms with virtually no sound absorption in place. With extensive glazing throughout and hard, reflective surfaces dominating the space, sound was bouncing freely, creating an overly reverberant environment that isn't ideal for a learning setting.
Our Solution
With windows taking up much of the wall space, Decibel Zero turned to the ceiling, offering large, uninterrupted surface area well suited to acoustic panel installation. While a ceiling-only application isn't always the most acoustically optimal solution compared to a mixed wall-and-ceiling treatment, it was the most practical option available, and delivered a significant improvement in the room's overall sound quality.

The Result
The rooms are now noticeably calmer and easier to teach and learn in, with reverberation brought under control despite the challenging glazing-heavy layout. The installation also looks sharp, proving that even a constrained treatment approach can deliver both functional and aesthetic results.
